Gungrave Overdose was made for you.

Arc System Works is known for their unique anime-styled, video game IP. However there is a developer that out animes the anime video game champs.

Gungrave Overdose is a PlayStation 2 game.

You play Grave, a big guy with big guns.

A big anime guy.

Gungrave is so anime that there is a trailer for the Gungrave anime on the disc. An anime made by the creator of Trigun. Don't get confused though, Gungrave Overdose came first. From the jazzy title music to the big guy with big guns. It has gun swords and spikey blondes. Elements may seem Metal Gear while others may feel like Ghost In The Shell. Sentai poses are abound and accompanies chains, coffins and guitar squeals. Gungrave hits all the notes for a quality anime feature of its time. The quality of the cut-scenes and the voice acting stand-out. There is no denying that the game is an anime feature in its own right.

But it is also a game. With the closest comparison being Max Payne, the player will be firing pistols through corridors with destructible elements. The art style, music, and combo meter will remind most of a fighter like Guilty Gear. Pump up those combos and the player can use special attacks that have Grave paying homage to Robert Rodriguez films. Eventually the introduction to two other player-characters give the game more life. It isn't perfect by any stretch. The controls will feel dated and the boss battles will test the mediocre camera system. If you can ignore the controls and camera, Gungrave is a unique experience that is tailored for those that love grounded action and anime.
