Final Fantasy in its final throes

The financial results for Square Enix are out. They aren't great and Square Enix is aware, at the least. They are buying back shares to prop-up prices and increase dividends, but even that is failing as their share price falls.

Square Enix is on a 3-year "reboot plan" that includes going multiplat. Same leadership that landed them where they are now, but somehow they are going to make successful games that run on Xbox, Switch, PC, and PlayStation. Games like Octopath Traveler II, which was swiftly beat in the marketing war by "heavily inspired" Sea of Stars, don't seem to have strong support from Square Enix. The mobile version of Octopath Traveler is getting more content than the existing console game.

What can we actually expect from Square Enix, then? If we look at their actions, WEB3 games, or maybe more Final Fantasy XIV content. I would like to see a Netflix anime, but it will probably be a Crunchyroll anime, if anything. Definitely a lot of ports are incoming. Switch 2 will probably be able to run Final Fantasy XV. Maybe an anniversary edition. I don't see anything inspired or revitalizing coming out of the current Square Enix. On the current path, it is a slow, painful death for the serious sibling to Dragon Quest.
