Embracer emancipates Coffee Stain

Following the Sony Group Holdings plan, Embracer is spinning Coffee Stain off into a separate company while Embracer Holdings maintains a majority ownership.

While I feel like majority ownership is still too intrusive, it is a welcome sign that investors want Embracer out of it's own core business. It will also give Coffee Stain a chance to eventually free themselves from Embracer Holdings.

Holding companies are little more than leaches, in an almost literal sense. The goal of any company that is owned by a holding company is to pivot out from undermeath the ownership of the holding company and grow themselves into independence.

I do fear that the timing is poor. The gaming industry lacks major movement. Consolidation hasn't spurred growth, and the community is stuck on old software while companies like Nintendo try to squeeze blood from a stone. The cost of entry is too high to supply ample competition. Doug Bowser's sentiment that players can stay on the old generation hardware is a truth that is bad for the industry. They can, will, and are staying in old games that run on old hardware.
