Epic layoffs 1000, just in time for memory crunch
Epic isn't cutting 1000 employees because they can't beat Steam.
Valve is in the same boat, making hardware to try to beat the AI crunch.
As the price of PC parts skyrocket, Valve and Epic see the same trend of PC hardware stalling and customers leaving the market.
They wanted AI to reduce overhead and increase profits, but it is reducing customer base instead. Now we need to retool and rethink gaming.
I bet they all wish they were Wizards of the Coast now. Imagine not being impacted by memory costs, having the OG loot box game that was never called out for its Pay-To-Win design, and the least-optimized game to ever be sold in book form.
Hey at least they aren't Embracer. Imagine having a bleaker future than the board game company you shoved all your debt onto.
